Neatishead Staithe Public Mooring Refurbishment

Client:

Broads Authority

Location:

The Broads National Park, Norfolk

Neatishead Staithe Public Moorings is situated in a residential area on Limekiln Dyke, off Barton Broad, in the picture postcard village of Neatishead.

Managed by the Broads Authority, the public moorings provide an important site for boating access to both the village and nearby Barton Boardwalk.

Refurbishment works to the public mooring included re-piling of a narrow 88m section and associated timber work refurbishment by our skilled craftsman and engineers. The project forms part of the Broad Authority’s general maintenance and its larger Barton Broads restoration initiative, Clear Water 2000.

There were a number of challenges to the project:  The moorings are located within residential area of The Broads National Park. The area is both a National Nature Reserve & Site of Special Scientific Interest. Not only was access dramatically restricted but we needed to be sensitive to the environmental conditions of the river, the main boating season was due to commence in a few weeks and we had the wettest March in over 40 years!

We pride ourselves in offering environmentally sensitive and innovative answers to solve problems in the most viable and appropriate way possible. With restricted waterside access, the project was perfect for the deployment of our newest investment, an excavator-mounted MOVAX side grip pile driver.

Currently one of the lightest MOVAX side grip pile drivers in the UK, this compact unit means we can carry out complex and environmentally sensitive works on sites with unstable ground, or limited access, in this instance, from a floating pontoon.

With its precision handling, the MOVAX SG unit delivers with less noise and minimal disturbance.  Our MOVAX SG excavator is available for operated plant hire or contract works, as part of a wider or piling-specific project. Please contact us if you would like to make an enquiry.
