Build Genuine Water Resilience Into Your Farm

Farm Reservoir Design, Construction & Enlargement

Protect your farm against dry periods, abstraction restrictions and increasing water demand with additional on-farm water storage.

The current dry conditions have pushed agricultural water security much higher up the agenda. The Government has announced that the Water Management Grant will reopen in autumn 2026, with up to £15m available to support on-farm reservoirs., alongside moves to simplify planning requirements and provide greater flexibility around water abstraction and reservoir refilling.

For farmers already considering additional water storage, these changes could make some projects more practical to deliver.

Miles Water Engineering can manage the complete process — assessment, design, planning, licensing, construction, pumping and ongoing maintenance.

The Environment Agency is also simplifying applications for long-duration abstraction licences for reservoirs, helping to provide greater certainty for farmers making significant investments in water storage.

Now is an important time to act

Do you have questions like: -

  • How much usable storage does the reservoir currently provide?
  • Has silt reduced its capacity? Is water being lost through leakage?
  • Can the existing reservoir be enlarged?
  • Could pumping or control systems be improved?
  • Or would additional storage elsewhere on the farm provide a better long-term solution?
For some farms, the most cost-effective answer may be improving the reservoir they already have. For others, enlargement or the construction of additional storage may offer significantly greater long-term water security. We can help assess and answer these questions.

Miles Water Engineering has decades of experience in designing and building reservoirs.

We can assist or lead the entire process from assessment through to building, including key items like permitting, surveying, soil investigations, modelling etc as well as the entire build and maintenance process.
